One of the most terrible things to have a person do is the killing of other people. What is even worst is the killing of a child. We cry out in rage as we should when we find out about some poor child that has been killed. We want to put that person behind bars for the rest of their life.
Yet we allow doctors to kill babies. We pay them gobs of money to do so. We even pass laws to make it easy for the killers to do their dirty job. God talks to mankind about the shedding of blood, and the baby is human and very innocent. The time is now -- in fact far pass due for the Christian Church to stand up for what is right. I got a letter from Dave Santos the other day (March 28, 1998). Dave and his family are missionaries in Sao Paulo, Brazil. In this letter Dave shared some information about the world. I would like to share it with you:
We received the following information about the world we live in that is sobering and challenging. We have no choice but to ask ourselves what our responsibility is to the rest of the world based on the blessings we have reased on the blessings we have received from where He chose we should be born. Let it move you to see your world the way God does!
The Global Village
If we could shrink the Earth's population down to a village of precisely one hundred people, with all the existing human ratios remaining the same, it would appear as follows:
- 57 Asians, 21 Europeans, 14 from the Western Hemisphere, 8 Africans
- 51 Female, 49 Male
- 30 White, 70 Non-white
- 30 "Christian", 70 Non-Christian
- 80 living in sub-standard housing
- 70 who cannot read
- 50 who are suffering from malnutrition
- 1 is dying, 1 is newborn
- 1 has a college degree
- 6 people own 50% of all the wealth and live in the USA
- No one owns a computer
After these sobering facts you know what comes to mind? Paul's convicting words: "For some have not the knowledge of God, I speak this to your shame." We know that we could be doing even more that we are. Could you?
